Sesklo 1.0.6: pick your own appointment time, and quiet hours that actually stay quiet

Sesklo 1.0.6 is rolling out on the App Store and Google Play now, alongside a matching update to sesklo.com. Most of this release is about control: when you can be reached, who can reach you, and who can get into your account. One item is not, and it goes first — paying a provider through Sesklo now costs a dollar more than it did yesterday, and you should read that here rather than meet it at checkout.

For homeowners — the mobile app and the website

• There is now a $1.00 Sesklo platform fee on payments. When you pay a provider through Sesklo, the payment adds a flat $1.00 Sesklo platform fee plus the card or bank processing fee, both itemized before you pay. The fee is not refundable. It is ours, not your provider's — neither fee comes out of their price, and they pay us their own flat subscription on their side. If you pay an invoice in parts, each part is its own payment and carries its own fee. Fixed-price bookings are unchanged: those keep the $5 Sesklo fee they have always had and never carry this one. Requesting quotes, messaging providers, signing documents and scheduling visits are still free.
• Already on a recurring service? Your next charge is the old amount. If your saved card was set up on a recurring service before this fee existed, that next visit charge goes through at the old price and you get an email explaining what changes after it. Nobody meets this for the first time on a statement.
• We fixed what we say about vetting, and removed two badges we had not earned. The fixed-price booking flow used to tell you providers are verified. They are not. Providers create their own Sesklo accounts and agree to our terms; Sesklo does not itself verify licenses or insurance. That is what it says now — and the Verified and Insured badges still being drawn on provider profiles in the app are gone, because nothing behind them was real.

For homeowners — the mobile app

• Pick your appointment time instead of waiting on a phone call. When your provider proposes times, the project's Scheduling tab now shows them and lets you take one: tap a time, confirm, and it is booked. Your Appointments screen lists the offers too, so you can answer from there. If your provider offers a discount for a more flexible window, you see what you would save before you accept. The website has had this; the app did not.

For service providers — the mobile app and the website

• Require two-factor sign-in across your team. Team settings carries a switch that requires every member — you included — to set up an authenticator app, plus a reset for the member who lost their phone. It is on the app as well as the website, so you can turn it on from the truck. Turning it back off never un-enrols anybody; people keep the authenticator they set up. Property-management organizations get the same switch.
• Start and end the day at an address that isn't home. Route optimization and drive-time calculations can now anchor to an address you type in — a shop, a yard, a supply house — instead of only your home or business address. It lives in Settings → Scheduling, and the card now shows the address actually in use rather than describing where it comes from. On a team account, each member still keeps their own anchor: none, their home, or the business.
• Removing someone from your team takes effect immediately. Deactivating a member now ends every session that login holds, so a phone already open is signed out on its next tap, and they get an email. The next time they sign in they see a one-time notice that they were removed from your business, with the choice to start their own Service Provider account, change their email address off your business domain, or do nothing and keep using the same login as a homeowner.

For service providers — the website

• Quiet hours and vacation mode now actually hold back your texts and emails. This one is a fix, and not a flattering one: the settings existed and nothing ever read them. Now every job-request alert, quote acceptance and customer-message notification checks them before it sends. You can also choose per channel — hold texts, hold emails, or both. In-app and push notifications are never held back, so nothing goes missing while you are off. And a daily job-request digest that lands inside a quiet window is delivered when the window ends instead of being dropped. Settings → Communication.
• Google Calendar two-way sync, alongside Outlook. Connect your Google Calendar and your Sesklo visits appear on it, while the events already on it block out your Sesklo availability. Settings → Scheduling. Connecting is done on the website; the app shows what is connected and can disconnect it.

For everyone — the mobile app and the website

• Two-factor sign-in, if you want it. Any account can now turn on an authenticator app — homeowner, service provider, crew member, organization. There is a checkbox at signup and a card on My Account. Recovery is ten one-time codes, or an emailed link that only ever turns two-factor off. One authenticator covers every account behind your login.
• Block someone in a conversation. Reporting a message now includes blocking the person who sent it. You stop seeing their messages everywhere they appear, and they stop generating notifications, emails or texts to you.
• Large photos and videos upload again. Anything over roughly 4.5 MB was being refused before our own code ever saw it, which broke most video uploads and the larger photos people attach from the website. Files now go straight to storage, so video clips up to 50 MB and photos up to 10 MB upload the way they were always meant to.
• Video tiles show a still frame instead of loading the clip. Galleries, project documents, work logs and message attachments now paint a stored thumbnail, so a page full of video no longer pulls down every clip just to show you a frame. Videos uploaded a while ago keep the old behaviour.

For everyone — the mobile app

• Losing signal no longer signs you out. The app treated every failed token refresh as “this account is gone” and threw away the saved credential, so a tunnel, a dead spot or a hotel wifi could cost you your password. Only an actual rejection from the server can do that now. Lose the network and you will see the sign-in screen for that launch, but the next launch with a connection puts you straight back in with no password.

For everyone — Android

• Moving to a new Android phone keeps you signed in. Set a new phone up from your old one, or from a backup, and Sesklo arrives already signed in instead of asking for your password. It needs a screen lock and Google's backup turned on; without those it falls back to a normal sign-in.
